Why We Don’t Stop Eating When Full
I heard an interview recently where they were talking about how our early ancestors would catch a fish, hunt a boar, maybe a dog, whatever, and eat until they were full.
Okay maybe not a dog… we know they much preferred kittens. 😉
How do we know our ancestors stopped when full? There’s video evidence online, obviously! Okay maybe it’s just a theory, but it probably has some validity.
At any rate, what do we do? We put all kinds of spices, sauces, etc on our food that makes it taste so good that we don’t stop when we are full, we stop when it’s gone.
Wingstop anyone????
We’ve been conditioned to doctor up our food to make it taste better, heck to make it irresistible.
Bland, nope. Bitter, heck nope. We want sweet, salty, we want our taste buds to dance with everything we eat.
Why? Lots of reasons actually. Mostly probably because we can.
If we can make things taste better, we do. Nothing wrong with that.
On the other hand, some would argue that the food industry is driving us in that direction.
Think about it – we don’t stop when we’re full, we stop when it’s gone. That has a huge impact on our waistline!
Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting that we stop making our food taste better.
What I am saying is to be aware.
Be aware that food industry execs are getting rich while we get fat on their food.
Not to mention all the metabolic conditions we develop because of it… well I guess I did just mention.
We get eat to our own detriment, not just because we like it, but because they are trying their darndest to addict us.
Be aware.
Watch your portion size.
Stop when you are full… before you are full actually.
Eat sugar for dessert only.
These are just a few things to keep in mind.
BUT, becoming aware is the first step.
Once you are aware, you can start to take action.
What’s something that you absolutely cannot resist and must eat until it’s gone?
