I often get asked what coaching is. More specifically, how it differs from other helping professions such as consulting or therapy.
There are many differences. From a 10,000 foot level, I’ve tried to summarize some of the main points below.
Type: | Purpose: | Function: | Relationship to Clients: | Role of the Professional: |
Therapy* | To heal, fix | Move from dysfunctional to functional | Therapist is the expert/authority | Advise, prescribe, diagnose, treatment plans |
Coaching | Provide insight, help with vision & goal setting, optimize | Move from functional to optimal | Equal partnership, co-creation, synergy between coach & client | Challenge client thinking, support, encourage, help set goals, provide accountability |
*Also applies to consultants, physicians, dieticians, nutritionists, etc.
In health coaching, I more specifically help clients change their relationship with food. I help people change their eating habits in a variety of ways, including (but not limited to):
- Identifying and interrupting habit loops
- Uncovering and moving beyond limiting beliefs
- Developing strategies to manage specific situations
- Setting boundaries with self and others
- Making small, impactful changes that can be sustained long term
Are you ready to get to the next level and crush your health goals once and for all?
You can do it. I can help. Together we’ll crush it.
